A superlative adjective is used to compare three or more objects, people, or places. Using the superlative form takes a comparison to the highest degree possible. When we compare one subject to a group we use superlative adjectives.
To form superlatives of regular adjectives follow these rules:
-For one syllable adjectives ending in consonant-vowel-consonant, double the last consonant and add the adjective –est:
hot the hottest
-One syllable adjectives ending in –e, add –st
Safe the safest
-Other one syllable adjectives, add –est:
cheap the cheapest
-Two or more syllables adjective, add the most or the least in front of the adjective:
expensive the most expensive / the least expensive
-For adjectives ending in y, drop the y and add –iest:
funny the funniest
